“Currently, the European market represents close to 30 per cent of our total annual volume, which in 2010 should reach around 4,500 tonnes,” comments Rolando Olivares, who heads up San Gabriel.

“Through our UK office we’re working on developing new markets, and obviously that also includes opportunities in other parts of the Continent like Russia or even the Middle East.”

By December 2010, San Gabriel had already boosted its lime exports by 30 per cent, shipping close to 180 containers, and by the end of the year the group planned to reach its exports objective of 200 containers.

To accommodate the development of new markets, San Gabriel has begun to expand its lime groves in the Martinez de la Torre area of Vera Cruz in Mexico and invested in new machinery to boost its packing efficiency and capacity.

While remaining a fully-dedicated lime producer, the company recently also branched out to source mangoes, table grapes and grapefruit to complement its offer for existing clients.
